Imagine moving into a neighborhood where native plants, wildlife habitat, healthy soils, and conservation are part of the community from the very beginning.
That’s what’s happening at Sunbridge in St. Cloud, Florida, highlighted by Homegrown National Park as its first Homegrown National Park Community. Rather than treating nature as something separate from development, Sunbridge is demonstrating how neighborhoods can be designed to include native landscapes and conservation areas alongside the places where people live. 🌱 Native plants are built into the landscape.
💧 Healthy soils and native landscapes help absorb stormwater.
🦋 Pollinators and other wildlife gain habitat.
🐦 Birds become part of everyday neighborhood life.
🌿 Thousands of acres have been set aside for conservation. Homegrown National Park
The idea goes beyond individual yards. When native landscapes extend throughout a neighborhood, separate patches of habitat can become part of a much larger ecological community.
And there’s an important lesson here for established neighborhoods, too: we don’t have to redesign an entire community overnight. Homegrown National Park encourages residents to start by talking with neighbors or approaching their HOA about supporting native landscapes. Homegrown National Park
🌎 NEIGHBORS FOR NATURE CHALLENGE: Imagine your neighborhood with more native plants. Could you and a neighbor replace a small section of lawn? Add native trees? Create connected pollinator gardens? Encourage your HOA to incorporate native plants into common areas?
One yard becomes two.
Two yards become a corridor.
Common spaces join in.
And gradually, a neighborhood becomes habitat. 💚
As the Sunbridge story reminds us, meaningful change doesn’t require perfection—it requires participation. Homegrown National Park
