Sparrows affected by Pesticides

Neonics caused sparrows to drop a quarter of their body weight in three days. Sparrows eating pesticide laden seeds lost their ability to travel north. Affected sparrows lingered two to three days longer than normal in their migration. Neonics were originally presented as being safer for the environment than the older pesticides. While neonics may not affect birds and insects at the same level as their predecessors, they do still have dangerous affects. Neonics tend to last longer in the soil, affecting the water table, streams, and rivers. Larger wildlife are also affected by neonics as they eat the coated seeds. Additional research and more judicious use of neonics is necessary.
