Neighbors for Nature

Students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School transformed a section of their school courtyard into a thriving native pollinator garden through hands-on learning, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Sixth and seventh graders researched native plants, designed the garden layout, and worked alongside teachers, conservation educators, and maintenance staff to build and plant the garden. Within months, the students discovered monarch caterpillars feeding on the milkweed they had planted, providing a powerful reminder that even small habitat projects can make a real difference for wildlife. The project not only created valuable habitat for pollinators but also inspired students by showing them that their actions can positively impact their community and the natural world.
