There are three types of wombats in Australia. All three species are declining. Mite infections, hunting, and habitat loss are contributing to their loss. Wombats are only found in Australia. They are a protected species in Australia, but farmers still hunt them. A group of committed volunteer and scientists are working hard to save the remaining wombats. They have put fences up around the wombat conservation area, created wombat tunnels and are working with zoos on breeding programs.
