πΏ Native Plant Spotlight: Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) ππ
Delicate, graceful, and tougher than it looks, the Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) is one of North America’s most charming native wildflowers. Its nodding, bell-shaped blue to violet blooms dance in the breeze from early summer through fall, bringing beauty to prairies, meadows, rocky outcrops, and open woodlands.
Despite its fragile appearance, Harebell thrives in poor, rocky soils where many other plants struggle. It provides an important nectar source for native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators throughout the growing season.
πΌ Why plant Harebell?
π Supports native pollinators
π¦ Provides season-long nectar
π± Drought tolerant once established
π Perfect for rock gardens, native gardens, and meadow plantings
π A beautiful reminder that even the smallest flowers can make a big difference.
Every native plant we add to our landscapes helps rebuild the habitat that wildlife depends on. Together, we can restore biodiversityβone garden at a time.
Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and moths depend on native plants not only for nectar but also for critical life cycle support. Harebell, known scientifically as Campanula rotundifolia, plays an important role in supporting these species, particularly certain specialist bees and small pollinating insects that use its delicate bell-shaped flowers as a reliable nectar source during summer bloom periods. In healthy grassland and meadow habitats, harebell contributes to a diverse plant community that helps sustain pollinator populations by extending the availability of forage across seasons. Its low-growing habit and resilience in dry, open conditions make it especially valuable in restoring native habitats where pollinator resources may otherwise be limited. By incorporating harebell into restoration and garden plantings, we strengthen ecological networks that support pollinators and the broader biodiversity that depends on them.
Plant native. Protect pollinators. Restore habitats.
