Heat Waves in the Pacific threaten Sea Life

A massive heat wave lasting three years off the coast of Hawaii caught scientists off guard. Researchers are aware nowadays. They are expecting another massive ‘blob’ in the Pacific waters. The ‘blob’ causes Pacific water temperatures to rise 3 degrees above normal. This increased water temperature affects all sea life. Sea creatures lay less eggs and others travel to cooler waters. Toxic algae blooms flourish in the warmer waters. Coral reefs start bleaching. Winds that normally stir up the ocean water are strangely silent. This allowed the warmer waters to persist and increase in temperature. The blob extended hundreds of meters in depth. The new is only 30 meters deep thus far. Scientists are developing methods to try and mitigate the blob.
