Pollinators are experiencing a remarkable decline. Loss of habitat is one of the reasons. Developments wipe out pollinator habitat. When urban sprawl occurs, pollinator habitat shrinks. This shrinking creates islands of pollinator habitat. These islands isolate pollinators. When pollinators become isolated their habitat shrinks. An 18 year long study determine pollinator corridors connecting these pollinator islands increased the pollinator population at a rate of 5% higher than areas without pollinator corridors. Not only did the rate of laying eggs increase, but the number of pollinators coming from other areas increased.
Pollinators need all the assistance we can provide. It’s up to us.
