Climate change is causing insects to decline in the rain forest. German scientists estimate a 75% insect decline in German nature preserves. Scientists estimate 4 million insects remain unrecorded. The food web describes the interdependence of insects, plants, and wildlife on one another. If one link in the food web disappears, the remaining food web parts are all at risk. Insects are at the bottom of the food web as every organism on earth relies on insects for food. Scientists theorize climate change as the main culprit. Each increase in the overall temperature cause varying degrees of diapause in the insect world. Insects stop laying eggs when the temperature increases too much. This is happening in the rain forest already.
