Santa Cruz Galapagos tortoises are endangered. This is the first recorded event of a 100 year old Santa Cruz Galapagos tortoise giving birth. Santa Cruz Galapagos tortoises are losing habitat due to hunting, predators, and invasive species. Scientists estimate Galapagos tortoises live extremely long lives close to 200 years. Females can breed at any age.
